The simple answer is: because it's convenient!
And we’re not joking: the majority of our trips involve accommodation changes and transfers by minivan or rental car. In this case, a backpack is much easier to store in the boot alongside the other WeRoaders’ bags. Plus, you'll discover that in crowded cities, on metro rides, or on dusty or snowy streets, not having to drag a suitcase around is a lifesaver! The cherry on top: having both hands free while moving through the airport or city to meet up with the group is incredibly handy!
We recommend considering a combination of a 50/60L backpack as your main backpack (check if the size of your backpack is within the airline’s baggage allowance) and a 20/30L smaller bag to fit under the seat. For some destinations, a compact bag like a duffel bag works perfectly too!
If you have any doubts, each trip page specifies when it’s required to travel with a backpack—check the 'Travel Mood' section for more details.
